will having less music on my ipod (nano) make the battery last longer? anyone know? sometimes it will last a couple of hours, sometimes it will last ten minutes. mostly, it lasts 20-40 minutes, which is not long enough!

so sometimes you're being pretty responsible and getting things done and then all of a sudden you realize it's one in the morning and you've been watching old david byrne videos for a couple hours. and how did britney spears get in this video, anyway?

I fell asleep at 7:30 last night and didn't get up until 7:30 this morning. awesome!

cough drops are a little bit delicious in a gross way. I feel like my mentholated breath has super powers.

there is this whole thread going on the staff listserv about restaurants in town that are open for thanksgiving. how freaking lazy are you if you can't cook some food on the ONE day a year that is about hanging out at home and eating food?

I'm playing in this tomorrow ... I am really excited for it! we had a ton of atlanta girls play in our bout last weekend and the savannah team is a lot of fun.

last night I put my contacts in while sleep walking. I woke up this morning and was like, holy crap, I CAN SEE! my pea sized brain must be getting stronger ... I am doing things while I am sleeping so I don't have to do them when I wake up in the morning. usually I am functioning at about 2% brain power while sleep walking so I am amazed that I found my contact case, opened it, and put them in without losing either of them.

I have a test at 5pm. it is one of those classes where you take 3 tests (plus the final) and they drop the lowest of the 3 test scores. I already have an A test average from the first 2 tests, so why am I taking the third? that makes no sense. it only took me two hours of looking over my notes to realize that.

oglethorpe is the only county in georgia with only one red light in the entire county. we are so fortunate as to live within walking distance to this great monument.

fake skateboards just came out with a deck with brian's art on it. it is pretty sweet and you can see a picture on their myspace page (it's the main image right now). that has been a while in the making, so it is cool that it's finally out.

I have to be up mega early to drive to the other side of athens for this. last weekend, we did a habitat for humanity house build which was kind of fun in a weird way. we shingled the roof, but only finished half of it. I slept for like two days after that. it may have been the margarita I had afterwards. I don't know. it's also my weekend to cover the lab. not exciting. lots of work and probably no fun whatsoever.

brian bought me a coffee maker with a timer (do you say that, or programmable? I don't know. timer sounds way old school.) and it is basically the best thing ever to not have to make coffee in the morning. it is ready when I drag my slovenly self out of bed. love it. I got a lot of good loot for my bday, both from myself (oops) and others. I could link, but that seems excessive.

I want to go on a vacation. where could we go? we live in the country and I like cities. help!

there is nothing that does not completely rule about the guy on the UGA homepage the past few days - from the fact that he's wearing shades while riding an exercise bike indoors to his monochrome jumpsuit.

yesterday coming home from work I moved a baby bird out of our street. long story short, went back a little while later and one of the two babies was dead (ants), so I grabbed the other and brought it home. it's a mockingbird. very cute. very hungry. poops a lot.

+ kombucha makes my stomach burn, but tastes delicious. I think I am addicted to it. I am not tuff enough for the plain tea kind. I get the ones that are 5% juice.

- I have weekend duty. and school starts next week, I think.

+ I had a good sleepwalk last night where I turned the light on (semi-waking myself up in the process) then tried to evade brian's questions about what I was doing ("looking for my list."), then telling him to turn the light off. I always get so mad because the moment between dreaming and knowing what I am doing and then waking up and having no idea what I'm doing is so SMALL and I just can't make the connection. brian said I should have asked myself, "am I dreaming?" more often. which reminds me of this:

- how can I smell good in the morning and then smell so bad by the afternoon? I blame coffee. perhaps it's a hidden blessing that keeps others from interacting with me. yes.

- I just accidentally drank the kombucha strands. I do not love that.

+ bout at the end of this month.

my mom and dad came up last weekend for our bout and are now apparently Big Roller Derby Fans, which was kind of surprising. we won 104 - 54. you can see photos of the bout here. here is a pic of me not falling down if you want to save some time trying to figure out which one is me. also, helmets and mouthguards are basically universally unattractive unless you are carmen slamdiego so I spared you of a shot including my face unless you want to go through the trouble of finding them. you can see that not only did we win the game, but our boutfits are clearly far superior to those of the hittin' misses. as my softball coach in middle school would say as she forced us all to tuck in our shirts before the game, "look good, feel good, play good."

my mom called me the day after the bout to talk about how much fun she thought it was and my dad called me today to find out when we are going up to asheville for our bout at the end of the month so that they can make a hotel reservation to go. and then he kept talking about how much he liked roller derby. considering that two skaters got sent to the ER during the game (one for a repeat on a knee injury in may, the other for a torn MCL and jammed femur-hip ... yeah), that's a pretty positive reaction. I think they had to come check it out after hearing about the absolute slaughter in nashville last month from my brother. anyway, between my parents, brian, allison and eric, kat and sarah (and their gf and bf), brian's sister and brother in law, and whoever else comes up to asheville, I expect to see a significant athens cheering section which had better include signs and/or bare chests with my name on them (brian, I am looking at you).

I have been knitting this pattern today and made a mistake on the last row that I thought was a random extra stitch so I just knit two together (clearly, I am a perfectionist...) and of course, now I'm one stitch short on the current row. for me, there is nothing like making a mistake and having to rip back on really small dpns to make me want to freak out and kill myself. actually, I briefly considered setting all of my yarn on fire and calling it a day, but didn't really think about killing myself. so that's out there.

I think that I fell on my middle finger (yeah, the important one - left hand, even, the out-the-window middle finger) at practice this week and for the past couple days have had the insane urge to crack it (sideways, not pulling out). it wouldn't crack at all for a day or so, and now I've probably cracked it 30 or 40 times between today and yesterday. I just tried to pull on it and cracked my wrist instead. I am old. send help. and cookies.

I am proficient in finding something, anything else to do when I think I feel like updating. it is like the world's greatest motivator to NOT have to find something to talk about. I considered updating earlier today and proceeded to work for several hours, go grocery shopping (spent $106...yowza), finish a project, think about updating again, make prince dressing, work on a project that sux, update our bout ticket sales spreadsheet, and do laundry. I also took out the trash and watched charm school on mtv which basically seems like america's next top model except with really trashy bitches and no tyra. I did hear some pretty choice quotes on there, most of which I've already forgotten, but were really funny at the time.

basically, unless I can think of something fairly self-depreciating I have a pretty hard time hitting update.

basically, I should stop saying basically all the time. basically.

other things:

spikey likes to sleep in the yard all day in this nest he makes of stuff he grabs out of the recycling. right now it's a gardenburger box, okara patty box, empty can of tomatoes, a paper towel roll, and his squeaky toy. he had a jar, but I threw it out because I didn't want to pay the vet bill when his dumb ass broke it on his cute face. he has a spot where he can see our back porch, the gate (and somewhat through the fencing), our neighbor's driveway where people buy his tomatoes (highly recommend), and the pasture behind our house. unfortunately, jules sold off most of his herd because he was having to spend so much money on hay to feed the cows. HAY! I hadn't seen them in a while because the other half of a tree fell over and blocked our view down into the valley (sounds quaint, huh?) where the pasture is. the first part fell over into our yard back in may. so anyway, yeah. not so many cows and I didn't see my favorites. hopefully they didn't go to the hamburger factory quite yet.

I need to buy a new camera. mine has been broken for a while and not being able to upload photos when I post is probably half the reason I don't like updating. [basically]

I think I am going to buy a canon sd750. I've only ever had canon digital cameras and I love them. that's actually a lie. in y2k my dad got me an aol digicam. this was like, pre megapixel ratings. if it had a rating, it was like 1 mp.

our internet was messed all night and I was bored enough to drive back into town to download something. hell yeah, driving 12 miles to the kriddle to use their wireless. I make fun of random places that are all, "we have wireless!" like krystal, the bagel place, etc but...it was the closest place. it also didn't really work so I had to go to jittery joe's. so I will maintain that it's retarded for krystal to have wireless internet. also, when I got home, ours was working. awesome...

I am pretty moderately obsessed with the newest modest mouse album.

emmie is back in action. I dropped her back off at her vet this morning so they could give her a check up sometime during the day, and two of them didn't even recognize her as the same dog. her mouth is still slightly wonky, but the swelling is gone and she is back to her normal self. her normal self plus about three pounds of pity weight from me feeding her canned food and extra snacks with her pills, and not letting her outside very much. so thank you for the well wishes and I am sure emmie would thank you as well.

in non-dog news, on saturday I took a very quick trip to asheville for their exhibition bout. I am jealous of all these places with lots of different places to practice- we are limited in how often we can practice at our rink since we have to squeeze into their schedule/staffing, but we don't have any other suitable indoor or outdoor spaces to schedule extra practice.

which brings me to our next bout on july 29th, THE SHOVE SHACK. you can buy tickets online here, or from me (or from someone else you know...). it's our first full length home bout (three 20 minute periods) and I think we should have improved a good bit since we've had 2 interleague bouts and a few months since the exhibition bout.

I just remembered that I wanted to add a movie I heard of yesterday to our netflix queue. I racked my brain to remember the title, went to netflix, looked it up, and it said the movie was at my house. I am not sure how that happened?! I got up and went to the tv and sure as shit, the movie is sitting there along with another on the same subject. creep-tastic.

a couple of weeks ago at practice, someone looked at their feet and said, "I used to have really pretty feet," and I was like, "yeah, now you've got functional feet." I think that general sentiment can follow for almost my whole body (except being previously pretty, maybe). I am starting to think I will never see my butt again without a giant bruise on it. in a perfect world I have knee caps, and in this world I can hope they will be back in a week maybe. ignore the trash in the background, it's recycling and I'm going to turn that shit in for like 45 cents and it's going to be awesome.

</>

my right knee is not as bad, but the picture wouldn't resize right and I don't feel like changing the html.
